The Pilates Magic Circle, also known as the Pilates Ring or Fitness Ring, is a resistance ring made of flexible metal or rubber. About 14′ in diameter, it has padded handles on either side.
There are loads of ways to incorporate the Circle into Pilates exercises. You can place it between your hands to work the shoulders, chest and upper body, or put it between your knees or ankles to work the abs and lower body. It’s a very effective prop.

Here are a few things to consider before buying a Pilates Ring:
Most magic circles and Pilates rings are made of flexible metal or rubber. If you’re strong and want a muscular challenge, go for a metal one. If you’re new to Pilates or want milder resistance, go rubber.
Most Pilates rings are 14″ in diameter. This suits the majority of people. But if you’re short, or buying for a teenager, it is possible to get 12″ versions.

In older versions of the Pilates Ring, padded handles were only on the outside of the circle. Today, they tend to come on the inside as well.
I would recommend getting one with pads on both sides. It will open up a range of exercises where your arms or legs are placed on the inside of the ring, pressing outward.
If you’re new to Pilates, I recommend this Fitness Mad Pilates Ring. Made of foam covered flexible plastic, it comes with double padded handles.
