Reformers

The most famous piece of Pilates equipment, the reformer, makes a dramatic impression when you first see it, and a dramatic change in your body when you use it.

If you’re a reformer fanatic and are blessed with tons of space at home, you might be looking to invest in your own. The challenge then becomes finding the best machine for the space available, and determining if (i) you’ll really use it at home, or it’ll become a drop zone for clothes, and (ii) you feel confident enough to practice without supervision. See the disclaimer at the end!

In terms of which one to buy, it’s really down to your budget, space and how many add-ons you want to include.

Entry-Level Reformer

You can find basic reformers for less than £1,000. Folding models can be rolled under the bed for storage. Bear in mind, the foldable models generally have less adjustment options for your size, height, and level of ability, and have bungee cords instead of durable springs.

This foldable pro Pilates Reformer is a great entry-level option. It comes with an integrated Footbar and Jump Board, and folds away to a size of:

  • Length: 114cm
  • Height: 28cm
  • Width: 65cm

Mid-Range Reformer

If you’re experienced with Reformer Pilates and want something sturdier than a foldable one and more akin to a studio-quality machine, this aptly-named Studio Pilates Reformer will do the job. Made from A-Grade German Beech Wood and Stainless Steel, it comes with a Jump Board, Foot-Strap and Long Box accessories.

Professional Reformers

Pilates teachers – are you looking to buy some Reformers with all the bells and whistles for your studio? This Pilates Reformer with Full Trapeze Table is ideal. It comes with a fully adjustable Trapeze system (complete with springs, snaps, and push-through bar), a Jump Board, Foot-Strap + Long Box, and Flat Bed converters. Made of solid German Beech Wood, it’s a great price and comes with a lifetime guarantee.

Disclaimer: If you’re buying a reformer for home, I’d recommend doing at least a year of reformer classes in a studio before even thinking about investing in one (unless you are buying it for 1:1 sessions at home). If you don’t know what you are doing, it will end in tears (and an injury!)
