Spine Correctors

The Spine Corrector does exactly what it says on the tin – it improves the health of your spine. Also known as the Pilates Arc, this classic piece of Pilates equipment consists of a padded, upholstered wooden arc with an attached ledge/step. Handles are attached to the sides for stability.

In Pilates, we use the Spine Corrector to lengthen and strengthen the torso, shoulders, back and legs, while restoring the spine’s natural curvature.

Things to consider before buying a pilates spine corrector:

Dimensions

If you’re tall, you’ll probably need one with a higher arc height of, say, 10 inches or more.

The Frame

Your Spine Corrector should have a stable and robust base, so it stays in one place while you exercise. Choose one with a solid wooden base if in doubt.

Material

Most spine correctors are made of wood, but some are sturdier than others. Similarly, the top may either be made of PU/PVC leather (also known as vegan leather), or real leather. Whilst these materials look the same, PU/PVC leather tends to be less durable than real leather. Of course, some people prefer vegan leather for ethical reasons.

The Pilates Arc

Some Pilates Spine Correctors have more acute curves than others. These work well for people with flexible spines. Other pilates arcs have longer, more elongated curves. These are better suited for less flexible, taller people.

This Spine Corrector Barrel Set from Vitality4Life is made of solid, A-grade German Beech Wood. The padding is made of EVA padded foam and PU (vegan) leather. It comes with a set of 3 different height levels, so whatever your size, you’re sorted!
